It has been many years since the western musical world has discovered the richness of the maqam. Phrasing, aesthetics, melodic and formal development together with its vivant nature has revealed to the musicians an open space to explore.
Nikos Paraoulakis, ney virtuoso and an always-open-to-creativity musician and producer, will be running a workshop in Music Village 2020 where musicians will be exploring the maqam improvisation. Historical performance and recording analysis as well as taksim and composition techniques will be used as tools to familiarize participants with maqam and guide them to its magnificent world!
The workshop is open to all musicians interested in modal improvisation.
