“Anything the mind can conceive of, it’s possible” Barry White
Hayden Chisholm was one of the founding teachers in Music Village since its inception in 2006. His workshop “The G-String of Pythagoras” which ran for 13 consecutive years mentored several musical talents from around the world as well as birthing the legendary Agios Lavrentios Brass Band onto the Platea then into the world.
Apart from being one of the world’s most renowned and unique contemporary voices on the Saxophone, he is also an endurance athlete and brings with him a vast inter-disciplinary approach to his teaching, blending ancient wisdom, state-of-the-art science, and a hands-on no-nonsense mindset.
“Convergence Celebration” is chance to experience the best of the last 20 years of teaching in the village- from harmonics and fine tuning to song learning and New Orleans marching through the Platea- anything the mind can conceive of is possible in this week.
This year Hayden will be assisted by two veteran musicians of music village. Italian Reedman Federico Passucci will bring his deep knowledge of Balkan music forms and styles to the group to turbocharge the engine room, and Athens based percussionist and vocalist Giannis Despotakis will be a co-pilot and engineer and on this harmonic voyage into the stars.

Hayden Chisholm
Hayden Chisholm is a New Zealand performer and composer who has become one of the world’s unique voices on the saxophone. His unmistakable tone and deep understanding of a myriad of musical forms has taken him as a soloist all over the world in over 30 years of touring. He has been described as having "perhaps the clearest, purist sound of any saxophonist out there today, rivalling—perhaps surpassing—that of one of Duke Ellington's main alto men, Johnny Hodges" by AllaboutJazz.
He studied music in Cologne where he worked under Frank Gratkowski and Maricio Kagel. During his studies he not only performed many of the seminal contemporary works such as the Berio Sequences but also began to utilise their modern compositional techniques into forming his own improvisational language. He developed a radical new microtonal system for saxophone which he presented on his debut solo CD "Circe" in 1995.
Following further private studies in India and Japan he mentored under the artist Rebecca Horn and continued to collaborate with her intensively for 16 years, composing music for numerous site-specific installations in renowned museums the world over and culminating in the highly acclaimed exhibition "Glowing Core" in Mallorca in 2015.
He has been awarded with some of Europes highest music honours including the SWR Radio Jazz prize, German Jazz Album of the year and the German Prize of Record Critics. In 2024 he was awarded with the prestigious Swiss Ávore scholarship.
Passionate about education, he gives regular masterclasses worldwide focusing on harmonics, intonation, and the musician's body.
After moving to Belgrade in 2019 he founded the BAM club which has grown to become one of the most important underground music venues in the West Balkans.
Alongside music he is a passionate ultra trail runner and regularly competes in 100Km+ distances.
