Hayden Chisholm was one of the founding teachers in Music Village since its inception in 2006. His workshop “The G-String of Pythagoras” which ran for 13 consecutive years nurtured and mentored several musical talents from around the world as well as birthing the legendary Agios Lavrentios Brass Band onto the Platea then onto the world.
Apart from being one of the world’s most renowned and unique contemporary voices on the Saxophone, he is also an ultra runner and a certified instructor in the Oxygen Advantage breathing system who brings with him a vast inter-disciplinary approach to his teaching.
After more than 25 years of experience in touring the globe as a soloist, teaching 1000’s of students, and completing several ultra endurance events, he is now bringing together his knowledge to present a new complete music modality he calls the “Total Tuning System”.
“Total Tuning System” quite simply brings body-mind-voice-instrument in tune, creating a unified and powerful whole. Using my combined knowledge of intonation, breath, and body-work, musicians of any instrument can turbocharge their game and start finding their true voice, all while having some fun along the journey.
My main fields research and passion include harmonics, mind-body optimisation, ear training, extreme endurance, breath-work, and much more, but what is unique about the Total Tuning System is the way in which these vast intersecting fields are combined into a unified whole with direct practical applications for musicians of any level.
The scientific advancements in breath and body work in the field of endurance sport are in my estimate a few decades ahead of what we are taught in music schools and with this course I aim to correct that and bust some common myths along the way, especially with regard to the bio-mechanical, bio-chemical, and bio-rhythmical elements of the breath- the core pillar of the entire work and the base on which strong musicianship and functional movement can be best built. ( Spoiler: a “full” breath will not deliver the oxygen you need to your brain, tissues, and muscles)
Specifically students and curious souls can come away form this course with clear and easily workable answers to questions like:
-how can I tune up or tune in on stage and then in life with ease?
-how can I turbo-charge my focus and reduce stress?
-how can I self-regulate my nervous system ?
-how can I minimalize and even leave behind stage fright and nerves?
-how can I simply improve faster and level-up my playing?
-how can I achieve flow state in my music and life?
-how can I best find my true voice on my instrument ?
-how can I best bring it all together?
We will learn the foundational pillars of the Total Tuning System and we will come away with a deeper knowledge of our selves and the music we love and serve.
Although I am teaching a lot of mind and body work the focus will still be on the music making- meaning we will learn and perform songs together and co-create. This is the way in which the T.T.S. work is immediately applied to our performing lives as musicians. If you are predominantly interested in the mind-body work and don’t play an instrument you are still welcome but your voice will be a useful companion.
Although we may not run 100s of kilometres over the mountains through the night I will give you the tools to enable you to undertake and even enjoy your own kind of personal Everests- whatever that may be. The sky is the limit, our feet rest on the soft stone of Agios Lavretnios, and sweet song shall stream forth from our hearts.
